CITY CENTER
City Center is an unprecedented urban metropolis that will open in late 2009 on 67 acres between Bellagio and Monte Carlo resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. A joint venture between MGM MIRAGE (NYSE:MGM) and Dubai World, CityCenter is valued at more than $9 billion and will include ARIA, a soaring 61-story, 4,000-room resort casino; three non-gaming hotels including Las Vegas’ first Mandarin Oriental; approximately 2,600 luxury residences; and The Crystals, a 500,000-square-foot retail and entertainment district. CityCenter also will feature a $40 million public fine art program with works by acclaimed artists including Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, Nancy Rubins, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, among others. CityCenter is a design collaboration between MGM MIRAGE and eight internationally acclaimed architectural firms including Pelli Clarke Pelli, Kohn Pederson Fox, Helmut Jahn, RV Architecture LLC led by Rafael Viñoly, Foster + Partners, Studio Daniel Libeskind1, Rockwell Group and Gensler. Charting a new course for responsible growth in Las Vegas, MGM MIRAGE is pursuing the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification at CityCenter. As planned, the 18-million-square foot, multi-use project will become one of the world’s largest environmentally sustainable urban communities.
ARIA Resort & Casino
ARIA Resort & Casino, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, will feature an unprecedented combination of sustainable design, creative personalized attention, exclusive guestroom technology and spectacular amenities. The soaring 4,000-room steel and glass beauty will be the centerpiece of CityCenter with a sophisticated, contemporary design demonstrably different from any building that has preceded it. In ARIA’s reception area, Maya Lin is creating an approximately 84-foot silver cast of the Colorado River, which will be her first work of art displayed in Las Vegas. ARIA will feature an array of dining experiences, from the casual comfort of bistros and cafes to culinary masterpieces from world-renowned chefs and restaurateurs including Masayoshi Takayama, Shawn McClain, Michael Mina, Julian Serrano, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Sirio Maccioni, Jean-Philippe Maury and The Light Group. Cirque du Soleil will present a hip-swiveling production celebrating the timeless musical legacy of Elvis Presley. ARIA’s guests also will enjoy premium meeting experiences with 300,000-square-feet of technologically advanced meeting and convention space; a luxurious spa that will offer a complete menu of skincare, massage and hydrotherapy treatments to be enjoyed in its 62 individual treatment rooms or three spa suites; and the most technologically advanced guestrooms in the country. ARIA’s vast 300,000-square-foot pool deck will be a tropical oasis in the heart of the desert. Shielded by lush plantings of oversized palm, acacia, pine and bottle trees, the soft and sensual paradise will feature three large pools, an adult pool, hot tubs and 32 cabanas for up to 1,500 guests.
Vdara Hotel
Vdara,is an internationally inspired all-suite hotel and spa designed for those who love the excitement of Las Vegas but prefer to enjoy it in an exclusive, non-gaming, smoke-free and sustainable environment. Physically connected to Bellagio and adjacent to ARIA Resort & Casino, Vdara will offer access to all of the entertainment, gaming, shopping, dining and nightlife at CityCenter and in Las Vegas, while also providing a retreat from it all. Designed by RV Architecture, LLC, led by Rafael Viñoly, Vdara’s distinctive crescent shape and unique skin of patterned glass will create one of the most striking design statements in Las Vegas. Soaring 57 stories, Vdara will host approximately 1,495 suites ranging from approximately 500 to 1,650 square feet. Vdara also has residential units available for purchase, including studios, deluxe studios, one- and two-bedroom residences, and one- and two-bedroom penthouses (single and two-story). When they’re not in use, owners will have the option to rent out their residences on a nightly basis. Characterized by open floor plans and horizontal windows, the accommodations will deliver expansive views of the city and mountains; each will feature a gourmet kitchen as an added convenience. Vdara will boast amenities commensurate with the world’s most elite resorts. From early morning to late evening, Vdara Health & Beauty, a 16,000-square-foot, two-level spa, salon and advanced fitness facility, will sooth and rejuvenate its guests. Vdara’s contemporary Sky Pool & Lounge will feature fully appointed retreat and spa cabanas with semi-private plunge pools and a high-energy bar and lounge open day and evening. Martin Heierling, the acclaimed innovator behind Bellagio’s AAA Four Diamond restaurant Sensi, will serve as executive chef for Silk Road, Vdara’s modern international restaurant; Bar Vdara, an eclectic social lounge and bar; and the Gourmet Grocer. Vdara’s meeting facilities will welcome guests to a world of sophistication as rich in design as it is in technological and culinary offerings. Joining impeccable service with 10,000-square-feet of contemporary meeting space, Vdara will be the premier choice in Las Vegas for intricately customized executive meetings, corporate, social and banquet functions for 10-400 guests in an upscale boutique hotel setting. Just outside of Vdara, Nancy Rubins will create one of the most visually stunning commissions at CityCenter with a larger scale version of her famous installation, Big Pleasure Point, a colorful composition of rowboats, kayaks, canoes, small sailboats and other water vessels finessed into a gravity-defying form.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences
Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residenceswill mix the prestige of an internationally renowned resort brand and its matchless amenities with a world-class hotel and residential experience. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, Mandarin Oriental will feature 400 hotel rooms and approximately 227 exclusive residences, including The Mandarin Penthouse Collection with luxurious two- and three- bedroom units ranging in size from approximately 2,065 square feet to 3,900 square feet. Residential interiors have been crafted with meticulous care by the distinguished design and architecture firms of Kay Lang & Associates1 and Page & Steele Interior Architects1. Living spaces will be characterized by an artful, eastern approach, married with contemporary aesthetic splendor, in a decadent selection of color palettes, materials and finishes. Mandarin Oriental will create balance and harmony for residents and guests with its incomparable amenities, including gourmet cuisine via 24-hour room service; an array of concierge, doorman, housekeeping and valet services; as well as a wide range of dining and well-being facilities. On its exterior, Mandarin Oriental will display Typewriter Eraser, Scale X, 1998-1999, a legendary piece by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The four-ton, 19-foot stainless steel and fiberglass sculpture depicts a giant blue and red typewriter eraser with the bristles of the brush turned upward in a graceful gesture.
